Brown Family Ranch is a small working ranch that offers 40 acres with trails, a large outdoor arena, and lots of space for outdoor activities. With trail riding and riding lessons, and a great venue for events, the Brown Family has offered a strikingly scenic space for folks to enjoy for 21 years.

We acknowledge that the land where we reside today in Boulder County, is within the territory of the Hinóno'éí (Arapaho) people.

We honor Chief Left Hand (Nawath), leader of the last Hinóno'éí band to spend their winters in the Boulder Valley.

Our Mission

The secure future of our public lands, watersheds, food security, and access to the outdoors are increasingly reliant on younger generations. We are the future and the decisions we will make in the coming years will impact generations beyond us; through our food, our water and the systems that surround this.

So how do we get people to care about these things?

We see importance in offering a place for folks to reconnect with their food and land through ranching, farming and equestrianism. By providing an encouraging, accessible and fun environment to go on a mini cattle drive, trail ride, or simply spend time in nature with horses, we believe that we can secure the future these industries by sharing what we love.

Our Story

Emma Brown created EB Outdoors in fall of 2021 to fill a niche in the equestrian world that had not been met, creating a place that values diversity and inclusivity for BIPOC folks and also versed in the systems behind why there is a lack of diversity in equestrian sports. Brown strives to offer a chance for all to reconnect with themselves through outdoor equestrian programs in Colorado.

The journey to providing the farming, ranching and equestrian industry with folks that reflect current demographics, started in 2019. Brown ultimately decided to start building the foundation to build a place that is BIPOC friendly and providing quality instruction and care.

Brown began teaching lessons at the age of 16, and eventually taught lessons throughout her undergraduate time at CU Boulder. Brown eventually took clients to compete at local shows in western and english, before officially starting her own LLC.

Brown officially started leading trail rides and teaching lessons for herself at Broken Arrow Ranch, owned by the Tones in Gold Hill, Colorado. Simultaneously, she was guiding as a fly fishing guide for local outfits, and landed a position at Budges Lodge, in which EB Outdoors is now partnered with. Brown began building a team of young equestrians whom she grew up riding with, and built a resilient team of instructors, ranch hands and wranglers.

Brown then moved to Windy Creek Ranch in Longmont, CO where she built up and ran a full care boarding and training facility, caring for up to 30 horses. In December of 2023, Brown and her team moved home to Brown Family Ranch where they currently hold programs.

With the help of folks who also saw her vision and helped her along the way, she now resides in Longmont on her families ranch, managing the property and offering a variety of equestrian and outdoors events for all.

Emma Brown is an avid fly fishing guide, wrangler and packer, as well as dedicated equestrian and rancher. Her love for providing access to the outdoors to empower voices to the conversation of conservation is an ever growing passion.
